Timeline

1832 – Estimated year of birth.

1841 – Census – Liverpool, Lancashire, Aged 9 – Living at home with his mother and 3 siblings.

1851 – Census – Apprenticed to Thomas Appleton (Collier) in Haydock with one other boy Thomas Stevenson.

1855 – 29th October – “Violently assault[ed] and feloniously ravish[ed]” Ellen Oakley with a fellow apprentice collier in Haybock.

1855 – 1st December – Convicted at Liverpool of the rape of Ellen Oakley.

1856 – 12th January – Received at Wakefield Prison.

1856 – 30th December – Received at Dartmoor Prison.

1858 – 18th July – Received at Chatham prison.

1859 – 4th May – Received at Woking Convict Invalid Prison. Prisoner Number 41.

1859 – 14th October – Released from Woking Convict Invalid Prison.
